On the 24th of September, we hosted our first Protection Platform Innovation Summit. The event focused on building our community and establishing our strengths through differentiated content. ​The Summit aimed to bring together key industry stakeholders (specifically senior executives) to discuss innovation, share insights, and explore the future of the protection landscape.​ It was a day full of insightful discussions and meaningful connections.

🌍 Partnerships & Ecosystem 

  • We briefly heard from Andy Doran, UnderwriteMe CEO on the importance of building strong partnerships and fostering a collaborative ecosystem that is key to protecting more lives.  

👥 Trust, Social Media and Insurance  

  • External speaker Nathalie Nahai gave a keynote on how to create connection and influence in the age of AI, key takeways were: 

  • Consumer behaviour is changing; people are more cautious and make deliberate choices when it comes to buying from brands they trust.  

  • Trust and empathy are today’s true currency to convert and build loyalty. 

  • AI is on the rise in marketing and communication, but there is an undeniable compromise on tone of voice and authenticity if human touch is not involved.  

  • Empathy must be used in psychological storytelling, we saw some examples of different brands leveraging connection in different ways. 

📊 Underwriting & Analytics 

  • Travis Short, Head of Strategic Analytic at Pacific Life Re, gave us an analytical take on underwriting in the UK compared with other markets, with the UK leading on Straight-Through Processing. 

  • Predictive underwriting using broader data (including medical records and financial data) could shape the future. 

  • Is preferred underwriting on the horizon for the UK? 

🤖 Decision Platform Innovation 

  • Some of own team of experts gave an exclusive preview of our AI Engine product(currently in beta) and data sourcing capabilities. 

  • We explored opportunities to use AI responsibly in underwriting while addressing gaps in access to health records, specifically related to private GPs. Fascinating discussion on how a key challenge that the industry is increasingly facing. 

💬 Panel Discussion highlights on customer engagement strategies 

  • One size no longer fits all! Today, customer journeys are messy and omnichannel touchpoints matter more than ever. 

  • Retention requires more focus and collaboration between insurers and other parties. 

  • Balancing human touch with digital convenience is critical. 

  • Consumer duty, cybersecurity, and finfluencer risks are growing areas of attention. 

The summit showed that the future of protection is going to be driven by people working together, smart innovation and staying closely connected to customers. Every session touched on the same core idea: the sweet spot is where tech and human insight meet—whether that’s through better storytelling, data-led underwriting or more personalised customer journeys. 

Partnerships came through as a major theme, with a real sense that no one can move the dial alone. AI and analytics are creating huge opportunities, but trust and authenticity will shape how well the industry moves forward.
